The Ballad of the Lonely Registrar
I'm officially registered for three courses at Fordham! Apparently, even at the graduate level institutions of higher education have "distribution requirements:" early Brit, middle Brit, later Brit, early American, and late American literatures. The point is to well-round our masters experience (10 courses) enough to equip us to teach intro-level survey courses of any type someday as professors. Luckily, the school offers some excellent courses this Fall. Here's how I fit in:
Monday: Research Methods Seminar, 3:30-5:30
Tuesday: Poems of the Pearl Manuscript, 5:30-7:30
Thursday: Modernists/Victorians, 3:30-5:30
Plus, I have to log 12 hours working in the writing lab and attend various reading groups and lectures as they occur with relevance. And then there are the inevitable reunions with those of you in the NYC area, Yankee games, films, and other social functions to attend. And library time. And the commute -- if there ever was a time to splurge on installing an interface allowing me to use the i-pod in my car audio system, that time is now.
Other News: After six days of labor, we have successfully carted all of our stuff from The School to our new residence in Selden, located in the geographic center of this long island. For those in the area, look for an invitation to a house-warming party in the coming summer months.
Recent Reading: The Postman Always Rings Twice, The Complete Stories of Bernard Malamud, Portnoy's Complaint, Prague, In Cold Blood, Flannery O'Connor: An Introduction.
Recent Viewing: Sex and the City season 4, Key Largo, FIFA World Cup 2006, Curb Your Enthusiasm season 1.
Recent Listening: early Bob Dylan, Everyone Knows This is Nowhere, The Liars Drum's Not Dead, Scott Walker The Drift
