Rare as it is, I've been equally flabbergasted by two films in the same day — and part of this flabbergastation is due to the unexpected connections between the two: first Throne of Blood and then All About Eve. How did I happen upon this juxtaposition? The Middle Country Public Library, of course — only one of the top such institutions in all of New York State. I've been mining their extensive DVD collection for months; it's the new, cheaper alternative to shelling out thirty bucks to those blessed bastards at Criterion. Anyway, the similarity in depiction of power struggle, betrayal, and related darker shades of human behavior was uncanny between the two (despite each film's autonomous worth).

Best Research Resource Ever

Doing some e-legwork for my seniors, who are in the midst of the research phase, I came upon this gem of website: FindArticles.com. If you don't mind, link to it and search for an author as if you were preparing materials for a critical essay; I found dozen-paged scholarly essays, full-text interviews, biographical pieces. The site is not overtly presented as a research tool, but it seems to be possibly one of the most beneficial instant free resources available online. Am I dreaming?
