I'm at SUNY Stony Brook's main library, in the midst of an AP Literature training course and supposedly browsing the AP Central website (which is an excellent and extensively back-catalogued resource), and I have been tangentially led to this excellent slice of Americana: Benjamin Franklin's "Drinker's Dictionary," a compilation of colonial slang for "being hammered."

A few choice selections from just the top of the list: "His Head is full of Bees," "He sees the Bears," and "He's had a Thump over the Head with Sampson's Jawbone."
