Built to Spill concert last night @ Irving Plaza with Amanda, Gary, and associates. This was my first time seeing this sublime and loud guitar band; it was excellent to confirm the transcendence of Doug Martsch's technical and creative talent live, and to hear his voice -- one that haunts my memories of junior year in high school when a random friend made at soccer camp the summer before had turned me onto Martsch's side-project with Calvin Johnson, The Halo Benders. Highlights of the set were "The Plan", "I Would Hurt a Fly", "Sidewalk," and especially "Carry the Zero." Great music is when the players make invention seem obvious and beautiful at once.

I'm getting married on the very day that is the 30th anniversay of the release of Jaws.
