Possibly Maybe?
Listening to the Bjork track today, I recognized a musical phrase - a spare cyclical backing five-note motif - from somewhere deep in my cortex. I managed to narrow it down to either Boards of Canada or DJ Shadow, and found it in the latter's "Mutual Slump" from Endtroducing...
I tend to listen to this album -DJ Shadow's - in situations of extended transit, during which I'm likely to phase in and out of sleep. I think many of its fecund, moody corners have lodged themselves firmly in the fecund, moody crevices of my subconscious, so hearing this piece of music buried in a Bjork song I have only heard a few times and only listened to closely today was rather disturbing...until I found that Bjork co-produced the track with Shadow on Endtroducing...
I'm curious, though, as to whether or not Bjork composed the motif or whether both artists are sampling from some prior source. I'd like to play it for you: another reason why this blog should perhaps go audio in the near future. Listen for yourself.
